The best English student I had in France had never traveled outside of France. He had never even visited Paris. Yet his spoken English sounded like he had grown up in Ohio.

How was this possible?

He had spent years watching undubbed sitcoms—especially Friends—on repeat.

When I started learning French, people thought I was a bit mad, because it wasn’t something practical that would land me a job.

But because I thoroughly enjoyed it, learning became a consistent habit, pulling me through tough times, even 18 years in the process.

Here are few mindset shifts and habits that helped me become fluent.
